Brewers can add as many hops as they like, however, If we had to recommend based on style we would suggest the following:
New Zealand Brewer's Series | Australian Brewer's Series | ||
Style | Amount | Style | Amount |
Pilsner | 10-20g | Blonde Dry | 0-10g* |
Pale Ale | 20-30g | Gold Lager | 0-10g* |
Golden Ale | 20-30g | Classic Bitter | 10-20g |
American Pale Ale | 20-40g |
*These are not typically hoppy styles, especially in terms of dry hopping – commercial examples would have no hop aroma (i.e. 0g dry hops) but in truth, you can add hops according to your personal preference (going above 10g if you like) providing you don’t mind it not being true to style.
Hopping rates, in general, tend to be style specific, eg very low in lagers, moderate in pale ales, highest in American Pale Ales, IPAs etc, which is why I’ve given specific grams/ranges across the range.
